Husband-wife team Judy and Ray Schmitt formed Real Earth Productions in 1975. Real Earth Productions has produced over 30 video productions since then ranging from original dramas to documentaries. We have also produced 15 CDs as part of our "Music from the Lost River Valley" series. Our films have been shown on public television, distributed to colleges and public libraries, and have won numerous awards.

They include first place in the Canadian International Film Festival in 1987 and a "CINE Golden Eagle" award for our documentary "When Sound is Silent."  Our documentary dealing with disability issues, "Coming to Terms," was a finalist in the Outstanding Educational/ Documentary film category in the 13th Annual Media Access Awards, in Los Angeles, and it received a blue ribbon in the 1992 American Film and Video Festival.

In 2004, Ray Schmitt was named "West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year" by the West Virginia Filmmakers Film Festival. The award is given to "the filmmaker whose most recent work or lifetime of work has had the most significant impact on the WV film industry."
